Fall River family mourns a second son
Sep 1, 2017Dupras, 50, of Fall River, hit and killed by a car last week while crossing Plymouth Avenue near his 523 Whipple St. home, echoed his family’s tragic loss of a son in a motor vehicle accident more than 30 years ago.“There were six of us at one time,” said Carol R. Dupras, 53, of Somerset, the oldest, speaking at The Herald News on Monday night with their mother, also named Carol.Click here to read the obituaryA fun-loving auto mechanic who from a young age “could fix anything with a wrench in his hand,” his sister said, Dupras died of his injuries Wednesday at Rhode Island Hospital, according to Rhode Island Department of Health spokesman Joseph Wendelken.The family said he had several of his organs donated the following night.“I think it was heroic and noble of him,” his sister, three years older, said of their brother they called “Paulie.”“He had a heart of gold,” her mother said.“We loved our brother very much,” said the sister, who mostly spoke for her mother and the family.Crying at times, she remembered being 20 years old when older brother, the late Dennis Dupras, died at age 19 from injuries he’d suffered in a car accident.“Sixteen days” later, the mother, wearing sunglasses and speaking softly, said of losing her first son.The fatal accident in which Paul Dupras died remains under investigation by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Spokesman Gregg Miliote said city police turned the case over to their department in the past few days.He was struck by a car shortly before 5 p.m. Nov. 15 in the area of 905 Plymouth Avenue next to the median strip, police said.The family is upset over police not identifying their loved one and the explanation the victim’s kin could not be contacted. Police and the hospital notified them Wednesday, and close relatives went to the hospital the night he died, they said.“We were there immediately,” the sister said.His funeral service will be held at the Auclair Funeral home, 690 S.
